Heritage Programming

The Centers for Student Engagement, in collaboration with other campus departments as well as student organizations, organizes a variety of events during heritage and awareness months of observance throughout the year. All our programs and events are open to all FIU students and members of the FIU community.

Florida International University commemorates Black History Month (BHM) by recognizing the distinctive contributions and vibrant histories of people of African descent, with the aim of celebrating and enriching the Black cultural aesthetic through events, discussions, and cuisine. To mark BHM, the Centers for Student Engagement, in collaboration with campus departments and student organizations, organizes a variety of events throughout February to honor the diverse traditions of the African Diaspora through programming, exhibits, and celebrations.

    Holistically Queer: Feel the Vibe - An FIU Afrobeats Experience

    Celebrate BHM with an Afrobeats dance workshop led by international choreographer Cece Tor—featured in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Step Up: The Series, and HBO’s Eyes on the Prize—in collaboration with the Black Student Union and the FIU Pride Center’s Holistically Queer series.     A Century of Black History Commemorations

    In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Black History Week, founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926, and its evolution into Black History Month, this virtual fireside chat invites participants into an intimate, reflective conversation on a century of Black history commemorations.
