Men's Engagement Center

About the Men's Engagement Center

The Men's Engagement Center (MEC) enhances the academic, social and professional success of male-identified learners. The goal of MEC is to empower our male-identified learners through meaningful interactions with staff, former participants, introduction to campus resources and mentoring. Additionally, this program provides students with the tools needed to become engaged and successful members of the FIU community.

We encourage Panthers to engage with us through our events and services, which are funded and supported by student fees that have been allocated by the Student Government Association. All our services and initiatives are open to all FIU students.

Individuals who attend this suite of programs hosted by the Men's Engagement Center will:

  • Learn to think critically about male issues and what it means to "be a man"
  • Examine the expectations placed on males in our modern society
  • Redefine the expectations of the male role in family and social relationships
  • Develop positive study techniques, stress management skills and leadership competencies
  • Incorporate physical and mental health techniques that bolster student wellbeing

All our services and initiatives are open to all FIU students.

The Men of Character Leadership Symposium is a half-day conference that emphasizes the positive aspects of leadership, specifically for males. The symposium will feature a panel of experts who will share practical insights and guidance on effective leadership, followed by a keynote address designed to inspire participants through positive and effective leadership that they can incorporate into their own leadership journey.

"It was a very positive learning atmosphere, and I think the representation of leadership for young men was uplifting. I think it was a great event, and the discussions of the panel were very thoughtful."
