Health insurance through Global First Year's student health insurance plan auto renews during a student's final semester in the policy.
Policies with Wellfleet that extend beyond fall 2026 will remain enrolled with Wellfleet as their insurance provider. Any new or renewed policies starting on Fall 2026 will have United Health Care Student Resources as their insurance provider.
Auto-renewed students receive an email with an attached invoice for semester coverage. If you wish to complete your renewal, pay your renewal invoice. Details of the insurance plan can be found here: University Health Plans.
- Insurance holders whose coverage will expire will receive direct communication from FIU Global First Year about the auto-renewal process and payment

Health insurance through Global First Year (provided by Wellfleet) is not FIU-sponsored insurance and is not part of the FIU Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). This coverage is an accepted, alternative health insurance plan specific to Global First Year students. Students who complete Global First Year are eligible to renew their enrollment through graduation. FIU’s sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is administered through Academic HealthPlans (AHP), with Aetna as the insurance carrier.
